San Benito, TX - Arturo Gomez, 69, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Narcisa Villarreal Gomez; his son, Juan Antonio Soto; 2 sisters, Serafina Longoria and Lydia Aguilar; and 3 brothers, Jose Angel Gomez, Raul Gomez and Guadalupe Gomez. Mr. Gomez was a Sgt. in the United States Army and Honorably Discharged in October of 1963. Mr. Gomez is survived by his loving wife, Juanita Gomez of San Benito; his daughter, Darlene Gomez-Sanez of Austin; 4 sons, Jose Luis Soto, Pedro Antonio Soto, Jose Manuel Soto and Francisco Javier Campos all of San Benito; a sister, Melba Barreiro of Port Isabel; and 3 brothers, Gil Gomez of San Antonio, Manuel Gomez of Harlingen, and Alejandro Gomez of Del Rio. Visitations will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 25th and 26th , 2008 from 12 Noon to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary recited on Sunday at 7:00 P.M. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 27, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church located at 1500 Butler Rd. in Olmito. Interment will follow to Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Brownsville. Military Honors will be conducted at the graveside by the V.F.W. Post 2035 of Brownsille, Texas.
