Estolia J. Carey, 85, of San Benito, TX, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Severa Carey; and her grandmother, Francisca Perez. In 1947, she graduated Santa Rosa School of Nursing in San Antonio and was employed at Santa Rosa Hospital from 1947 through 1954, Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen in 1954, and Harlingen Air Force Base in 1955. In 1964, she became the Director of Nurses for Valley Baptist Medical Center. In 1965, she worked for Brooks General Hospital in San Antonio and for Harlingen TB Hospital in 1986. She is survived by her brothers: Pete (Lillie) Carey of TAC, New Mexico, Rudolfo(Oralia) Carey of TAC, New Mexico, David (Sara) Carey of Austin, Agapito (Marilynn) Diaz of New Orleans, Juan (Eva) Diaz of Diboll, TX; and her sister, Elsie (+Rafael) Gomez of San Benito. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Friday, May 27, 2011 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary recited at 7:00 PM at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Mass of Resurrection will be held today, Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito. Committal service will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are John Carey, Ruben Carey, Jacob Reeves, Nicholas Reeves, George Gomez, and Timothy Gomez. Words of Comfort can be sent to the family of Estolia J.
