Jose Isabel Ortiz, Jr., 52, of Los Fresnos, Texas, entered into rest on June 15, 2014. Joe was known to his family and friends as "Hollywood Joe". He graduated Los Fresnos High School in 1980 and earned a degree in criminal justice. Officer Ortiz started his career with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on May 5, 1986. He was employed with TDCJ at the Lopez State Jail Facility and had a total of 27 ½ years with the agency. He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Isabel Ortiz, Sr. Surviving him is his mother, Maria Guadalupe Ortiz; brother, Adan (Ann) Ortiz; niece, Whitney Elaine Ortiz; nephew, William Wesley Ortiz; and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 2 pm to 9:00 pm, with a recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 pm, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Mass of resurrection will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Texas. Committal service will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
