Jose Alberto "Pellejos" Barrera, 79, of Port Isabel/Los Fresnos, Texas, entered into rest on April 24, 2014. Jose worked as a bait fisherman in the Laguna Madre area and at Jim's Pier filleting fish on South Padre Island for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Luis and Micaela Martinez Barrera; his daughter, Micaela Barrera; and his son, Adan Barrera. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Paula Barrera; his eleven children: Andres Barrera, Rachel Barrera, Jose Alberto Barrera, Jr., Ambrosia Barrera, Mary Lou Barrera, Alicia Barrera, Ruben Barrera, Maricela Barrera, Eduardo Barrera, Maria Isabel Barrera, and Maria Guadalupe Barrera; grandchildren: Jiobani Barrera, Paulita Linda Barrera, ad Michael Andy Barrera, as well as several other grandchildren; his sister, Marcela Casanova; and two brothers, Natividad Barrera and Cervando Villarreal. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. A chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
