Hermelinda Garza Gonzalez, 81 of Port Isabel, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, February 28, 2014 surrounded by her family at Valley Regional Medical Center. She was born on September 04, 1932 to Federico S. and Isabel G. Gonzalez. Born and raised in Port Isabel, Texas, Hermelinda was a shrimp packer at Valley Frozen Foods for 25 years, and a housekeeper at Sand Castle Condominiums for 25 years as well. She was a member of Our Lady of Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She loved each of her family members unconditionally and was deeply loved by all. She may be gone, but her memory and loving spirit will never be forgotten. Hermelinda is preceded in death by her parents; Federico S. and Isabel G. Gonzalez, her step-mother Elisa S. Gonzalez, twin daughters Isabel Gonzalez and Manuela Mathews and her brothers Artemio Gonzalez, Gualberto Gonzalez, and Gustavo Gonzalez. Surviving to cherish her memory and continue her legacy are her children Linda C. Gonzalez Battle (Larry), Maria Luisa Gonzalez, Elisa A. Rivera (Larry), Patricia G. Garcia (Carlos Sr.), and her sister Isaura G. Martinez. She is also survived by her 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 03, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Chapel Service will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 04, 2014 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Cremation will follow according to her wishes.
