Jose F. "Joe" Cavazos, Jr., 64, of San Benito, Texas, entered into our Lord's Kingdom on January 26, 2014. Jose, or Joe as many knew him, was born and raised and lived in San Benito. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who was very dedicated to his community. He was a graduate of San Benito High School, Class of 1969 and attended Texas Southmost College of Brownsville. Jose started his law enforcement career with San Benito Police Department in 1970. In 1977, he joined the Cameron County Sherriff's Department where he became the Patrol Sergeant Supervisor for 23 years until retiring on December 31, 2005. Jose returned to his law enforcement career on February 25, 2006 and became a Deputy Constable for the Cameron County Precinct 3. He was elected in 2008 for Cameron County Precinct 3 and re-elected in 2012. He was very well respected and admired in his community and will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonia G. Cavazos and Jose F. Cavazos, Sr., and a baby brother, Joe. Left to cherish Joe's memory is his loving wife, Graciela G. Cavazos; his three children: Rolando Cavazos, Roel (Janie) Cavazos, Joann (Fiance, Gilbert Guerrero) Cavazos; four grandchildren: Karina Cavazos, Rolando Cavazos, Jr., Lauren Cavazos, Jose Manuel Flores, and a grandson on the way, Joe Gavin Guerrero. Also surviving him are two sisters: Maria Elena (Lupe+) C. Perez and Esperanza Cavazos; and three brothers: Hector (San Juanita) Cavazos of Fort Worth , Manuel (Josie) Cavazos, and Jose Luis (Diana)Cabazos; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 12 pm to 4 pm at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home and from 5 pm to 9 pm, with a holy rosary at 7 pm, at The Knights of Columbus Hall, 826 E. Stenger. St in San Benito. Funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, January 31, 2014 at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito. Serving as pallbearers are Rolando Cavazos, Roel Cavazos, Juan Antonio Gonzalez, Jr., Mike Longoria, Tony Longoria, Ariel Villafranca, Jose Guadalupe Perez, Jr., and Joe Frank Cavazos.
