San Benito, Texas- Maria Leal Montemayor "Grandma", 83 was called home by the Lord on Friday March 18, 2011. Born on March 30, 1927 in La Paloma, Texas. An avid gardener and devout catholic, her greatest occupation in life was being a grandmother to all who knew her. Daily, she woke up ready to give of herself, never expecting anything in return. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ricardo "Rico" Montemayor Sr. and a son, Israel "Chino" Montemayor. She is survived by her sons, Ricardo Jr. (Kathy), Ernesto (Maria), Xavier (Viola), Joe (Adela), Robert and a daughter, Dora; 15 grandchildren; 25 ½ great grandchildren; a brother, Baldemar (Sara) Leal, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary 7:00 P.M. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in San Benito. As per her wishes she was cremated and her remains will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
