Port Isabel/Brownsville, Texas: Genoveva Vega Valdez of Port Isabel/Brownsville, Texas passed away on Ash Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville. Genoveva was born in Port Isabel to Jesus and Francisca Reynua Vega on December 9, 1916. Her family was one of the first pioneer families of Port Isabel. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and lived in Brownsville for the past few years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Guadalupe Valdez; parents, Jesus and Francisca Reynua-Vega; daughter, Maria Manuelita Miranda; and brothers, Maximo Vega, Manuel Vega, and Juan Vega. She is survived by her three daughters, Eulalia V. (Magdaleno) Gonzales of Port Isabel, TX., Francisca Minerva Valdez of Brownsville, TX., and Maxima Rosalinda Valdez of Brownsville, TX; a brother, Pedro Pablo Vega of Corpus Christi, TX; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel.
