Obituary of Jude Cecil Green

Please share a memory of Jude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jude Cecil Green, 62, of Port Isabel, Texas, passed away peacefully in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on May 25, 2024. His wife, five children, and son-and daughter- in-law were at his side at the time of his passing. Jude Cecil Green, our loving Father, Brother, Tío, Primo and dear friend was born on November 3, 1961, to James Cecil Green and Lucila Ochoa Green in Port Isabel, Texas. He was the fifth of seven siblings born to the couple. Jude loved his family and friends and enjoyed calling and visiting his loved ones simply to check in on them. He enjoyed fishing, listening to oldies music, cruising the backroads, and finding teachable moments in any activity. He was a kind and selfless man who never missed an opportunity to tell his family and friends how much he loved them. Like his father and brothers, Jude was a commercial fisherman and enjoyed being out on the water. Jude held his family legacy close to his heart. Having lost his father at a young age, Jude was grateful for his mom, siblings, tíos and cousins who raised him. While he often ventured away for work, he was proud to be from Port Isabel. He loved sharing stories of his grandparents and memories of growing up at their home next to the Champion Building. He loved cruising around historic parts of Port Isabel and recounting folktales passed on from generation to generation. He felt blessed to have close friendships with his cousins and childhood friends through all of the stages of his life. At 25, Jude met Martha Icela Ortega and the two raised five children Flora, Lucila, Shirley, Jude Jr., and Ramsey together in Port Isabel. Jude’s greatest joy was being a father. He loved having a family with which to share life’s happiest moments. He loved taking his family to the bay and showing them how to fish and swim. Jude also loved reading and learning. He was passionate about teaching his kids everything he knew from Gulf Coast fish, to changing a tire, and sharing his penchant for all things math. Jude was a proud father and truly content knowing his children and loved ones were happy and healthy. Jude’s later years were joyous as he often proclaimed he had gotten everything he wanted in life. He enjoyed a calm life in Port Isabel but often searched for his next adventure. He enjoyed spontaneous road trips in his RV, barbeques with family on the beach, and working on his cars. Jude made friends everywhere he went. His smile, sense of humor and inviting personality attracted the very best in people. Our dad was an amazing person and an even greater father. We are grateful for all of the years we had together. We will miss his smile and kindness. To our most beloved Father, Brother, Tío, Primo, and friend, may you Rest in Peace. We will forever cherish the laughs, embraces and memories with you. We love and miss you dearly. Jude is preceded in death by his parents, James Cecil and Lucila Ochoa Green and his sister Dolores “Dolly” Green. He is survived by his wife Martha Icela Ortega Green; five children, Flora Ortega Green, Lucila Green and her husband José Luis Vásquez Jr., Shirley Green, Jude Green Jr. and Ramsey Green and his wife Nataly Córdova León; siblings, James “Arnold” Green, Virginia “Kay” Green, Martha Camelia “Millie” Green González, Jacob Anthony Green, and Hilda “Janet” Green; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
