Obituary of Charles Edward Mattingly II

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Edward Mattingly II (Chuck), on April 10, 2024, at the age of 55. Born on September 30, 1968, in Galveston, Texas to Avis Renee and Charles Edward Mattingly, Sr., Chuck graduated from Klein Oak High School in 1986 and went on to earn his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Austin College where he was also a member of the football team. He then earned his law degree from South Texas School of Law in Houston, Texas. Chuck was well known for his dedication to his work as an accomplished attorney within the Rio Grande Valley. He valued justice and integrity and spent his time serving the people in his community. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, with many lives changed for the better because of the time they spent with Chuck Mattingly. Chuck loved football, John Wayne, being a Texan, and practicing law, but all these things paled in comparison to the love that he had for his four sons. He was immensely proud of his boys and truly valued spending time with them. He enjoyed any activity that involved hanging out with his sons, whether that was taking them hunting, watching them play sports or just simply talking and enjoying a meal together. He is survived by his sons, Duke, Ty, Jack, and CJ; his brother Joe (wife Wendy), sister Meredith Brown (husband Scott); and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Renee and Charles Mattingly. A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on May 18th, at 11:00 am at First Methodist Church of Harlingen. Chuck's departure leaves a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, and he will be greatly missed.
