Oscar “Pretty Boy” Valdez, Sr., 87, of Port Isabel, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Oscar was a lifelong resident of Port Isabel, Texas and worked in the Shrimping Industry for over 40 years, which he retired from in 1993. He was member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Port Isabel, TX. Oscar is preceded in death by his wife, Inez Valdez; son, Gustavo “Tavi” Valdez; infant son, Clemente Valdez; parents, Manuel, and Maria Elena Valdez; 3 brothers, Clemente, Pedro, and Manuel Valdez; 2 sisters, Guillermina Gutierrez, and Maria Elena Martinez. Left to cherish his memory are his 2 sons, Oscar (Irma) Valdez Jr., Clemente (Janie) Valdez, Sr.; daughter, Mary Helen (Javier) Silva; daughter-in-law, Gina Valdez; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his 3 sisters, Delia Garcia, Teresa Alonzo, and Martha Garza. Visitation will be held Monday October 16, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday October 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, TX with cremation to follow in accordance with his wishes.
