Guillermo “Willie” Cantu, Jr., 56, of Laguna Vista, TX passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Willie graduated from Port Isabel High School in 1989. He was a Maintenance Supervisor with the NRP Group for 14 years and a Life Member of Our Lady Star of the Catholic Church. He married his high school sweetheart, and they were blessed with 33 years of marriage. He was also very proud of his 2 beautiful children, Guillermo Cantu III and Raquel Angelica Cantu, who he loved and cherished the most. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He loved fishing, woodworking, and spending time with grandchildren. He loved his sister Angie, with whom he shared a close bond. He loved his only brother-in-law Sufian Hashash whom he affectionally called “Arabe”. He dearly loved his 2 brothers Jose and Felipe Cantu. He was always friendly and would give everyone a hand who needed help. He will be missed by many. He is preceded in death by his father, Guillermo Cantu, Sr; mother, Angelica Garza Cantu; and sister Paula Cantu. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Osbaldo Solis and mother-in-law, Maria Padilla. Left to cherish his memory is his High School sweetheart and loving wife of 33 years, Raquel S. Cantu; 1 son Guillermo (Natalie) Cantu III; 1 daughter, Raquel Angelica (Gustavo) Cantu; 2 grandchildren, Helena Elinor Juarez, and Nicholas Matthew Juarez; sister, Angelica (Sufian) Hashash; 2 brothers, Jose Maximo Cantu, and Felipe Cantu. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held Monday, September 4, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX with interment to follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Guillermo Cantu III, Gustavo Juarez, Micheal Gonzalez, Javier De Los Santos, Brian Fernandez, Victor Solis, Pedro Garcia, Osvaldo Solis, Jose M. Cantu, Christopher Perez, Jamil Hashash, Sufian Hashash, Nabil Fisher, and Jesus Manuel Flores. Honorary Pallbearers are Nicholas Mattew Cantu and Louis Xavier de los Santos.
