Pedro Gonzalez, Jr., 88, of San Benito, Texas, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Pedro G. Gonzalez, Jr. was born on October 23, 1934, to Francisca and Pedro Gonzalez. He resided in Harlingen with his parents and siblings, until he joined the military at an early age. He served in the army for two years before being honorably discharged. After returning home he met and then married Maria Luisa Benavides on November 22, 1955. They were blessed with one son, Rudy, in 1964. He shared many happy years with his loving wife, until becoming widowed in 2020. He continued living in their home on Sam Houston Street until his death on July 25, 2023. Throughout his life, he held various jobs, but his employment with Harlingen C.I.S.D. lasted the longest. He worked at H.C.I.S.D. for 30 years before retiring in 1998. Pedro G. Gonzalez Jr. was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was respected and loved by everyone. He will be missed by family and friends, alike. He was preceded in death by his parents: Francisca Garza Gonzalez and Pedro Gonzalez; his two brothers, Alejandro, and Manuel Gonzalez; his wife, Maria Luisa Benavides; and his son, Rudy Gonzalez. He is survived by his sisters: Bertha Gonzalez, Graciela Bellocco (Michele), Gloria Garza (Fernando), Irma Flores (Jose), and one brother, Gilberto Gonzalez (Rosa). He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Irma Gonzalez; his three grandchildren, Sierra Townsley (Cooper), Thomas Gonzalez, Jacob Gonzalez; and one great-granddaughter, Gwenivere Odette Townsley. Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Rio Grande Valley State Veteran’s Cemetery, 2520 Inspiration Rd, Mission, TX 78572.
