Anselma M. Gonzalez, 89, of Port Isabel, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023. She loved to sew, garden, and devote her time to the church. She was a devoted Catholic and retired from the Port Isabel ISD after over 20 years of service. She was in a quilting club, a member of the Guadalupanas, and the Spanish Choir at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Her pride and joy was her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Felipe Gonzalez; 2 daughters, Esmerlinda Delgadillo and Maria Manuela Rivera; parents, Francisco and Rufina Gaitan-Martinez; 2 brothers, Raul Martinez and Fidel Martinez; 2 sisters, Teresa Martinez and Francisca Villarreal; and son-in-law Roberto Medrano. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Esmeralda Medrano, Edna De La Cruz, Joe (Dolly) Gonzalez; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Bertha De Leon (Prospero), Maria Muniz, and Ester Martinez Gaitan; several nephews, nieces and other relatives. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, TX. with cremation to follow in accordance with her wishes. Pallbearers are: Andy Delgadillo, Juan Delgadillo, Jr., Mark Delgadillo, Carlos Gonzalez, Juan Delgadillo, Jr. III, and Ricky Martinez.
