Placida “Placi” Toman, 77, of Port Isabel, TX passed away Wednesday January 11, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. She distinguished herself as being a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born October 5, 1945 and lived most of her life in Port Isabel. From an early age, she migrated from Hidalgo, Mexico to earn a living which helped her become the strong woman she was throughout her lifetime. She worked as a server for over 40 years (25 years at Marcello’s Restaurant). She enjoyed playing the piano, traveling, cooking, gardening, and spending time with family. She was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness zealous in her spiritual journey in which she attended congregational biweekly meetings without fail. She enjoyed preaching passionately about the Good News of God’s Kingdom and his promise of everlasting life and happiness. Preaching selflessly in her community and anywhere she’d travel. She was an adventurous soul and travelled abundantly throughout Mexico, Canada and Europe with her late husband (Jerry). She was preceded in death by her parents Jose Nieves Cano and Simitria Pelcastre; son David W. Hamblin, and husband Jaroslav Toman. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Cammy L (Victor) Carrillo, Two grand-daughters Clarissa J. Hamblin, and Kayla C. (David) Tienda. Her five siblings, Atalo Cano, Macario Cano, Roberto (Anastacia) Cano, Eleuterio Cano, and Ana (Baldomero) Mata and half brother Emiterio Cano; 14 Nieces and Nephews. We will always remember her adventurous journey, and she will be dearly missed by all of those who loved her. Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Talk at 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.
