Obituary of Rebecca Galvan Cantu

Please share a memory of Rebecca to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rebecca Galvan Cantu age 87, of Laguna Heights, went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 1, 2023. Rebecca was a loving, devoted, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. She met the love of her life, Juan G. Cantu, when she was 16 and they married when she was 18 years old when Juan returned from Korea. They would have celebrated 68 years of marriage in January. They have two daughters, Rosalba Rodriguez (Javier) and Rebeca Castillo (Fernando), 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandbaby on the way. Rebecca is also survived by her 2 brothers, Daniel Galvan and Moises Galvan. Rebecca was a stay-at-home wife and mother and played a big part in helping her daughters raise their children. She enjoyed sharing stories and photos of great grandchildren with anyone who would listen. Rebecca taught her grandchildren the importance of church and prayer, anytime she talked to any of us, she would remind us of the important of faith and religion. She was also the best cook. Some of our favorite memories with Rebecca are when her grandkids would stand in the kitchen and watch her cook our favorite meals. She took pride in everything she did and that was evident with her cooking. Every handmade tortilla, dish or soup was made with love and joy. We grew up watching Hallmark Christmas movies year-round, Murder She Wrote and Matlock. Those were just a few of her favorites. She had pretty much watched all of them and loved to tell us what was about to occur. She wouldn’t want us to get caught off guard. She devoted her life to serving her family and during her final days she was surrounded by her husband, daughters, and all her grandchildren. It was our pleasure to take our turn in cooking for the family, telling stories about our family history and making sure she knew how much each of us treasured her and always will. There will never be another Grandma G. Rebecca was preceded in death by her son, Juan Jr., daughter Mary Elizabeth, parents, Santana and Rosa Galvan and Brother, Santana Galvan Jr. Visitation was held Wednesday, January 4, 2023, and a Chapel Service Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas with interment at Rio Grande Valley State Cemetery in Mission, Texas.
