Please share a memory of Ricardo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ricardo Huerta, Born and Raised in El Jardin, (San Benito, TX) known as “Vico” to his friends and family passed on October 23, 2022, at the age of 78. Our father gave me and my brother and sisters many amazing years of love, support, and guidance. We were blessed to have such a strong and dependable man as a husband, father, grandfather, and as a friend. They broke the mold with him. Ricardo was married to Sara Huerta for 51 years and together they formed a beautiful family. Together they built a strong family foundation, and they instilled a strong work ethic in us and filled our lives with wonderful memories of family road trips, early workdays at the flea markets, a love for beautiful flowers, and even the occasional scolding that helped guide us through life. As a young man Vico was the oldest male brother to 14 brothers and sisters. He served his country proudly in the US Airforce and then the Texas National Guard. Vico was stationed at Fort Clark in the Philippines where he mastered mechanics. Upon his return he worked at the San Benito Goodyear, but after having his children he wanted to assure us that he was always nearby. Dad decided he would drive a school bus for Rio Hondo ISD so he could be close to us and keep an eye on us. Dad drove bus 15 & 19 for many years and eventually took the spot of transportation director at Rio Hondo ISD. Many of the RHHS graduates still know him as “their bus driver”. My dad was a good man. He was hardworking, loyal to his family, and always enjoyed telling us all about his time served overseas. Dad loved his history channel, his weather channel, & his music (Freddy Fender Classics). He was the type of man who sacrificed purchasing things he wanted, just to make sure we had shoes and clothing to wear for school, and he always made sure we had a roof over our heads with a warm meal. We will miss you so much Daddy. Ricardo is survived by his Wife of 51 years, Sara Huerta; his daughter, Maria L. Martinez (Rick), and his 2 grandchildren, Diamante and Ricky and his great grandchild, Angel; his daughter, Viviana Huerta (Julio) and his grandchildren, Julian, Noah and Angelica; his daughter, Veronica Huerta (Eddie), and his grandchildren, Ruben, Aaron, Karina and Valeria. He is proceeded in death by his son, Ricardo “Rico” Huerta; his parents, Jesus Huerta “Apa Chuey”, & Dolores G. Huerta “Ama Lola”; and by 3 brothers and 1 sister. We are at peace knowing that all of us were able to often remind Dad how much we loved, valued, and appreciated everything he did for us. Thank you, Dad, for always being present for us and for always loving us. I know he is now reaping all the good he sowed. Rest peacefully Dad. We love you.
