Maria “Mary” Casanova, aged 75, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022, after ending her battle with cancer at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Maria is survived by her two loving children, her son, Juan Ramiro (Debra) Perez Jr. (45) of San Benito, and her daughter, Maria “Isabel” Perez (42) of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Jonathan Alexander Perez (22) of San Antonio, Alexandria Mae Garcia (21) and Ruben Oscar Garcia, Jr. (19) of New Braunfels, and Jackson Riley Perez (8) of San Benito; her brother, Alfonso (Guadalupe) Casanova and sister Rosa Perez of Houston; nieces and nephews of her late brother, Remigio Casanova, and sister, Cruz Soto, through-out central TX. She is preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Casanova, her father, Maximilliano Casanova, her sister Cruz Soto, brother Remigio Casanova, nephew Hilaro “Larry” Soto, Jr. and niece Sulema Soto Zuniga. Mary was born and raised in the country-side of Harlingen, Tx and later moved to San Benito where she lived closer to her family and raised her two children with her then spouse, Juan Ramiro Perez, Sr. It was later in life that Mary continued her education, obtained a high school equivalency diploma and completed 60 hours of college, setting an example for her future generations. As a working woman, Mary held a diversified career path from a beautician’s assistant, factor seamstress lead, sales associate in various department stores but most proudly as a jewelry consultant. Mary was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing, quilting and tailoring for herself and family throughout her lifetime. She was a loving and caring daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend and could often be seen having a playfully spirit and wise disposition. We hold you in our hearts, we honor your life and you will be truly missed by all who knew and loved you. Visitation will be held Friday, August 12, 2022, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, TX from 4-9pm with Prayer services at 7:00pm. Church services will be Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 10:00am at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. The family would like to extend their gratitude for everyone’s heartfelt prayers at this time.
