Obituary of Monica Gonzalez

Please share a memory of Monica to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Monica Gonzalez (Mona), 46, of San Benito, Texas passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones. Monica was born in San Benito, to Dionicio & Carmen Gonzalez on March 30, 1976. She graduated from SBHS Class of ’94. She was previously working as a preschool teacher at Journey Preschool in Harlingen. After leaving work, she continued her care for others by watching over her grandson & her nieces’ & nephews’ babies. Monica enjoyed being around family & taking advantage of her free time to spend with friends. She loved being able to just get up & go to visit her grandson & daughter in Killeen. Monica was a dedicated servant to her community, volunteering numerous years to SBCISD by helping through the Parental Involvement program. Monica was a big-hearted woman & was never one to say “No” when asked to help. She was well known for her bright smile, loud laugh & selfless personality. Monica will be dearly missed; she was the ‘rock’ of her family from hosting Thanksgiving dinners to wanting to host watch parties to see her beloved Dallas Cowboys play & making sure she sported her Cowboys gear. She was a wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin & Godmother. Monica loved taking cruises to the beach in her ‘Toretto’ and making sure she got her pizza before heading home. She always made sure to let whoever borrowed her ‘Toretto’ to not put him to shame by driving like a ‘grandma.’ Monica is the eldest of 3 children. She is survived by her parents, Dionicio & Carmen Gonzalez; sister, Norma Gonzalez; brother Dionicio (Becky) Gonzalez III; daughter Klarissa (Cristian) Salazar; grandchildren, Aziriah Noel & unborn granddaughter, Aralynn Ivy Salazar. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Victoriano & Concepcion Huerta, paternal grandparents Dionicio & Maria del Refugio Gonzalez, aunts, Rosalinda Huerta and Lydia S. Huerta. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Visitation will continue Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 27, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1001 West Highway 77, San Benito, Texas with interment to follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
