Obituary of Cecilio Torres

Cecilio Torres, “Chilo” age 68, of San Benito, Texas, was called home to be with the Lord, on November 27, 2021. He is preceded in death by his father: Benito Torres, mother: Guadalupe C. Torres, his brother: Benito Torres Jr. and his sister: Norma Linda Torres. Chilo was born on June 17, 1953, in San Benito to his parents Benito and Guadalupe Torres. He graduated from San Benito High School in 1971. He also attended a vocational school where he studied accounting. He later began working in the commercial fishing industry. He spent many years as Captain “Chilo” on a shrimp boat. He loved being out at sea. Chilo enjoyed cooking, grilling, and gardening and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns fan. He loved fiercely and deeply. We take comfort in knowing that he is pain free and at peace in the presence of the Lord. He is survived by his wife: Amanda Cantu Garcia, his loyal companion and dog: Doug, his step-children: Christopher Garcia (Alysia), Michelle L. Garcia (Juan), grandson: Juanito Jr. and Sonny Garcia (Amanda). Five sisters: Maria Elena Rubio, Carmen Gonzales, Leticia Romero (Roger), Connie Garcia and Minerva Weaver. Many nephews and nieces that he loved and helped care for throughout his life. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A chapel service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Thomae-Garza funeral home with Interment to follow to Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito. Pallbearers will be Christopher Garcia, Sonny Garcia, Charlie Gonzales, Joe Rubio Jr., Michael Torres and Victor Weaver. Honorary Pallbearer will be Rudy Rubio. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks. (May include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings).
