Joseph Robert Holland, 85, of Port Isabel, Texas entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Robe was a lifelong resident of Port Isabel, and member of the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He loved his hometown, its residents, and the Tarpons. His passion for local sports ran deep, coaching and developing the baseball skills of several generations of local youth. With a never-met-a-stranger personality, Coach Holland established lasting friendships in the area, and with many in the RGV sports community. He worked for the Point Isabel school district for nearly forty years. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with family. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. All of whom knew him as he truly was: loving, kind, sensitive, funny, and wise. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years Maria Del Refugio Cuellar Holland; daughter Sylvia H. Torres; parents Mariano Holland and Refugia Pérez Holland; sisters Beatrice Holland Floyd, Magdalena Holland Garcia, Maria del Refugia Holland Guzman, Enriqueta Holland Barrera, Josephine Holland Lubbeck, and Ruby Holland Garcia; and brothers Richard Holland and Mariano Holland. He is survived by sons Robert Holland Jr., Mariano Rafael (Helen) Holland, and Rolando (Vanessa) Holland; daughter Maribel (Brad) Urey; son-in-law Juan Antonio Torres; grandchildren Ariel Torres, Lauren (James) Delgado, Taylor Torres, Aiden Torres, Isabel Holland, Maria Elyse Holland, and Mateo Rolando Holland; great grandchildren Roland James Delgado and Sylvia Camille Delgado; sister Camila Holland Follmer; and brother Ernest William Holland. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 28, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, with a Holy Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. A Resurrection Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. Port Isabel Texas. Honored to serve as pallbearers: Ernest Holland, James Delgado, Edward Landa, Martin Cantu Jr., Merced Cantu IV, Matthew Cantu, Jacob Galvan, and Jesse Compean. Interment will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery. All individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks.
