Terry Robert Jacobs of Laguna Vista passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 7, at Harlingen Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his mother Phyllis (Cottingham,) his father J. Robert, and sons Jeffrey and Curtis. He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie (Richmond,) his brother Thomas (Nancy,) daughter Elizabeth Whitehead (Richard,) son Timothy (Arely,) 3 nephews, and 5 grandchildren. Terry was known for loving life and living it to the fullest extent. Friends and family will remember his winning smile, his quick laugh, his hard-work ethic, and his love of sports. Terry was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He attended the Worthington School System, lettered as a high school baseball pitcher while playing for the Worthington Cardinals, and graduated in 1962. He attended Ohio State University and then took a position as a postal clerk for the U.S. Post Office. Terry met Marge in 1976 and they were married in 1978. Shortly thereafter he left the Post Office to open his own home improvements company, which he retired from in 1995. Terry, Marge, and Tim moved from Ohio to Laguna Vista, Texas, in 2006, where they currently reside with daughter-in-law Arely, and grandson Robert. When Hurricane Dolly struck the area, Terry came out of retirement as a painter to help his friends and other Laguna Madre residents restore their homes. Cremation arrangements have been made by Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito as per Terry's wishes. A "Celebration of Life" will be held in mid-August with arrangements being announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the "Jacobs Memorial Account" which has been established at the First National Bank. Proceeds will be turned over to the Port Isabel Emergency Medical Services Department to use as matching funds for grants, and to purchase needed medical equipment for the city's two ambulances.
