Obituary of Joe B. Perez

Joe B. Perez, 91, of Port Isabel, TX, entered eternal rest at his home surrounded by his loved ones on March 18, 2021, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Port Isabel, TX and a member of our Lady star of the Sea Catholic Church. Joe was a shrimp boat captain and owner of several shrimp boats. He also was a pilot boat driver and proudly volunteered with the Port Isabel Fire Department. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. His hobbies included hunting and spending family time at his ranch in Bayview, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma H. Perez; his parents, Norberto and Luisa Perez; two brothers, Noberto Perez, Jr. and Pasqual Perez; one sister, Catalina Galvan. Left to cherish his memory are four children, Michael J. Perez, Melvin (Diana) Perez, Marvin (Isabel Hamblin) Perez, and Sophie M. Perez; six grandchildren, Wendy Saldana, Cindy Perez, Valerie Perez, Vanessa Perez, Chris Perez and Elisa Perez; 15 great-grandchildren, all of Port Isabel; one brother, James Perez; and three sisters, Emma Barker, Mary Lou Galvan and Rosemary Tousley. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 5 p.m., until 9 p.m., with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at 7 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. A chapel service will be held on Wednesday, March 24, at 10a.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home with Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 205 of Harlingen, Texas with cremation services will follow after the services. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 virus, all individuals are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by socially distancing a minimum space of 6 feet apart and must wear face covers or masks.
