Johnny Mendez, 61, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2021 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was born in Fresno, California on January 20, 1960. He was the son of Jose Mendez and Viviana Mendez. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Viviana Mendez and also by his wife Rosa Maria Mendez. Johnny worked for San Benito CISD for over 30 years as a Teacher’s Assistant and also worked at Rancho Viejo Country Club for more than 20 years. He suffered a stroke in February of 2015 and spent the last six years of his life at a nursing home. Johnny was to be cremated as per his wishes. He is survived by his only brother, Samuel Mendez, his sister in law Martha Mendez and three nephews: Alejandro Mendez (Jenny), Benjamin Mendez (Ruth) and Ishmael Mendez (Lucia). Also his longtime friends Vicente Cervantes and Gloria Arredondo. Also left to cherish his memories a very special friend of the family Ms. Rosa Garcia. There will be a celebration of his life and visitation to the family at Thomae Garza Funeral Home, 395 South Sam Houston, San Benito, TX 78586 on Monday, March 1st from 10AM until 1:00 PM. Afterwards we will proceed to San Benito City Cemetery to deposit his ashes. Rest in peace Johnny Mendez.
