Gertrudis G. Torres, 74, of Los Fresnos, Texas passed away on February 11, 2021 of natural causes at Valley Baptist Hospital, Harlingen, Texas. Gertrudis was born in Brownsville, Texas to Jose and Virginia Garza on November 15, 1946. She went to school in Los Fresnos, Texas. She married Eleno Torres on June 26, 1968 in Los Fresnos. Gertrudis was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and she embraced every moment with them, she especially loved her role as “Grandma”. Gertrudis is preceded in death by her parents Jose Garza and Virginia Carrera. Gertrudis is survived by her husband Eleno Torres Sr. Six children; Cruz Canales (Rafael) Francisca Torres, Javier Torres (Reyna), Eduardo Torres (Graciela), Liliana Nieto (Joe), Eleno Torres, Jr. (Elizabeth); Seventeen Grandchildren: Carlos Canales, Margarita Canales, Ana Canales, Valeria Canales, Rafael “Tony” Canales, Samantha M. Perez, Yuridia Torres, Dianira Torres, Frankie Torres, Priscilla Torres, Christopher Torres, Javier Torres, Samantha Torres, Jennifer Torres, Abigail Zavala, Jazmine Zavala, Samuel Mateo Zavala (Maria Urista): Eight Great-Grandchildren; Carlos Jr, Alecia, Jeremiah, Allyza, Lila Jean, Alan, Vianey, Gabriella. Pallbearers will be Javier Torres, Eduardo Torres, Eleno Torres Jr, Christopher Torres, Rafael Canales, and Hector Martinez. Due to current restrictions, the establishment will only allow 25% in at a time during visitation hours, All persons shall follow the current social distancing guidelines and all individuals must wear a face covering or mask. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021. from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Chapel service will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at 10 a.m., at Thomae Garza Funeral Home and the burial will follow at Los Cuates Cemetery in Los Fresnos, Texas.
