Obituary of Hilario "Nayo" Mercado

Our beloved father, Hilario “Nayo” Mercado 69, of San Benito, Texas, passed on to a better life on January 6, 2021, in Harlingen, Texas. He was born on March 27, 1951 to María Isabel Mercado and Jose Isaias Mercado in Tarejero, Michoacán. On September 30, 1995, he married Teresa Mercado, his wife of 25 years. Following marriage, both became residents of San Benito, Texas. Hilario was a great father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He loved to spend his time fishing, working on carpentry but what he loved most was his plants. Left to cherish his memories are his lifetime partner Teresa Mercado and his children Angel Mercado, Zahida Bocanegra, Jorge Mercado, Angelica Ybarra, Alma Schaefer, David Hernandez and Manuel Hernandez; Siblings Ana Mercado, Yolanda Espinoza, Baltazar Mercado and Rosalinda Garcia, as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Due to current restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart. All individuals must wear face coverings or masks. (may include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings). Visitation will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas a cremation will follow.
