Obituary of Maria Isabel Garcia

Please share a memory of Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maria Isabel Garcia (Atkinson) , of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 after reaching the age of 85 years old. Maria Isabel was born on February 9, 1935 in Olmito, Texas to Jose and Lucinda Atkinson. At a young age, due to circumstances beyond her control, Maria took the role of a mother/caretaker to both her older and younger siblings. This experience undoubtedly made Maria the loving, generous, and unselfish person everyone knew. Maria Isabel married Conrado Garcia on September 23, 1956. They began their life together in El Ranchito, Texas, later relocating to Corpus Christi. Together, with her husband, Maria Isabel was blessed with three sons. Maria Isabel had a strong work ethic. This is something that both she and her husband instilled in their children. Maria Isabel had a heart of gold. She never met a stranger and had countless friends and family that loved and cherished her. Her greatest joy was her family - watching them grow and succeed. Maria loved her family fiercely and was a great mother who always took care of her children and did the best she could to teach and guide them. She was a loving grandmother and a grandma-grandma to her great grandchildren. Maria Isabel was an excellent cook who enjoyed preparing her dishes to be shared with family and friends. Her special seasoning was love. She added love to all the dishes she prepared and they were always delicious. Within our family, she was famous for her incredible tasting tamales. Maria Isabel’s strong faith made her an optimistic person. She was a woman who believed deeply in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was often heard saying “Si Dios Quiere” “Mi Dios que tantas fuersas me da” “mi Dios, el todo poderoso.” Even when fighting ESRD, her mantra was “adelante con la cruz.”People that knew her were inspired by her tenacity for life. Every challenge was met head on. If she was knocked down, it was not for long. Maria would stand up, dust herself and face the next challenge life threw her way. In her later years, she could be found in her backyard gardening and tending to her plants. She preceded in death by her parents Jose Atkinson and Lucinda Garcia. Brothers: Roberto, Raul, Ruben and Ramiro Atkinson. Husband Conrado Garcia and a son Oberlin Garcia. She is survived by her sons Conrado (Diana) Garcia Jr., Antonio (Rubi) Garcia and daughter in law Melissa Garcia. Sister: Herlinda (Valentin) Cruz and sister in law Sofia Atkinson. Grandchildren: Lucinda (George) Blasingame, Oberlin (Emily) Garcia, Amy (Robert) Morales, Conrado(Brittany) Garcia, Antonio Isaias Garcia.
