Lavina Porter was born July 2, 1939 to Everette and Hilma (Harris) Williams. She was raised on a farm near St. Lawrence, SD with 8 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Miller High School in 1957. On January 18, 1959 she married Lowell LeRoy Porter. To this union came two children; David Allen Porter and Deborah Anne Porter. Lavina and Lowell raised their family in Miller, SD where she did the books for their Ariel spray business, Porter Flight Service. In 1982 they purchased property and a home in the Black Hills of SD. Lavina worked in the cafeteria for the School District for several years. Lavina loved her family and received abundant joy from spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed hosting family dinners and get togethers. After 49 years of marriage she lost her husband Lowell on July 12, 2008. Lavina started coming to Texas in 2009 as a Winter Texan. In 2014 she moved permanently to San Benito. She would spend part of each summer in Thunder Bay, Ontario with her daughter and family. At Fun N Sun Resort, Lavina was part of the Bible Study group, Zoomers RC Club, played cards and shuffleboard. She attended the First United Methodist Church. Lavina was always kind and willing to help others. Her family and friends will miss her gentle spirit and loving manner. Lavina is survived by her siblings: Alaca and Ren Christman, Redfield, SD, Wesley Williams Mitchell, SD, Martha Byrum Redfield, SD, Mary and Ed Styles Sioux Falls, SD. Eros and Barb Williams Sioux Falls, SD and Earl and Dianne Williams San Benito, TX. Her children: David and Marcia Porter San Benito, TX., Deb and Len Therrien Thunderbay, ON. Grandchildren: Lisa Porter Sandy, OR., Troy and Jessica Porter Union, KY., Amanda Therrien Thunder Bay, ON. and Stephanie Therrien, Thunder Bay, ON. Great Grandchildren Preston, Jesse, Lani, Mackenzie and Jackson. Due to current restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart. All individuals must wear face coverings or masks. (May include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings). A 9:00 a.m. graveside service will be held Friday October 9, 2020 at San Benito Memorial Park.
