Josefa (Chepa) G. Hernandez was called to receive her wings and to walk with the angels on August 3rd, 2020. Chepa was born in Los Fresnos, Texas on August 19th, 1933. She would have been 87 years young. She was a long-time resident of Port Isabel, TX, a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and a housekeeper for numerous years at the Holiday Inn on South Padre Island, TX. Josefa loved to spend a lot of time with family, and to play bingo with her sister, daughters, and granddaughters. She also loved making her famous tortillas, cooking, and to read books. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, sister, and tia. Josefa had a great journey and left a wonderful family to remember her for many years to come. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband Rosalio Hernandez; Sr.; parents Bernando and Martina Puente Garcia; two sisters: Maria Camacho and Ageda Gonzalez; four brothers: Miguel Hernandez, Rosendo Arambul, Gregorio Puente,Sr, and Pedro Garcia, Sr.; two sons-in law: Apolinar Vasquez and Jesus Moriel.; and one grandson, Jesus Guadalupe Moriel. She is survived by her three daughters: Martha E. Vasquez, Alma Alicia Guerra, and Estella Hernandez; three sons: Miguel Hernandez, Rosalio Hernandez Jr, and Gustavo Hernandez; one sister; Julia G Vela; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 2- great-great grandchildren. Due to current restrictions, this establishment will follow the 25% occupancy limit and all persons shall institute social distancing of a minimum space of 6 feet apart. All individuals must wear face coverings or masks. (May include bandanas or sewn or cloth face coverings). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A chapel service will be held at 10: 00 am on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home with cremation to follow.
