Obituary of Ventura R. Martinez

Ventura R. Martinez, 89, of Los Fresnos/Port Isabel, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, in Harlingen, Texas. He was a loving husband and great father, hard at times, rough around the edges, but had a good heart. Ventura was Captain of many shrimp boats. He loved his horses and his dog, Lobo. Ventura will be greatly missed and loved forever.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Angelina Zurita; his parents, Julio Martinez Valdez and Concepcion Rojas Hernandez; brothers, Jose Martinez, Dimitrio Martinez, Juan Martinez, Manuel Martinez, Bernardino Martinez Rojas, Lorenzo Martinez Rojas, and Hipolito Martinez Rojas.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Sonia Cadengo, Santiago Martinez, Hector Martinez, Susana Martinez, and Rebecca Sanchez; grandchildren, Amy, Tony, J.J., Daniel, Brandon, Lexus, Kenedy, Cross, Christus, Venny, Cassandra, Erika, Sebastian, and Joaquin; great grandchildren, Layla, Adam, Natalie, Aiden, Evan, and Xander; siblings, Vilio Martinez, Luis Martinez, Guadalupe Martinez, Exiquia Martinez, German Martinez Rojas, Paula Martinez Rojas, Eustolia Martinez Rojas, Margarita Martinez Rojas, and Concepcion Martinez Rojas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin Wednesday, March 20, 2019, for immediate family, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will continue Thursday, March 21, 2019, from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, Texas with interment to follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery.
