Obituary of Lawrence Guetzow

Lawrence David Guetzow, age 84, lifetime resident of San Benito, Texas, passed away in Houston, Texas, at Saint Luke's Hospital on Christmas Day. Lawrence was born August 10, 1927 in San Benito. He served in Germany in the United States Army during the time of the Berlin Airlift and was also stationed in Occupied Japan. He was employed by Continental Airlines which was originally Trans Texas Airlines in Brownsville. He retired with over 30 years of service. He spent his retirement raising cattle and farming. His favorite pastime was going to Las Vegas with his family. He was the son of the late Charles and Emma Guetzow. He married his high school sweetheart, Petra Linares, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Lily Mancillas, and his brother, Faustino Guetzow. He is survived by his sister, Catherine Corbello of Kerrville, his brother, F. Charles Guetzow (Bonnie) of Houston, and brother, Eugene Guetzow (Griselda) of Brownville. He is survived by his children who loved him dearly. They are David Daniel Guetzow of Houston, Norma Gonzalez (Joe), Edward Guetzow (Karen), and Robert Guetzow (Janie) of San Benito. He is survived by three grandchildren: O.J. Gonzalez (Velma), Arlyssa Gonzalez, and Aidan Guetzow of San Benito. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Jenna Gonzalez and O.J. Gonzalez, Jr. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, with a holy rosary at 7:00 pm, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 10:00 am at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito. Cremation will follow in accordance with his wishes. Serving as pallbearers are Eugene Guetzow, David Guetzow, Edward Guetzow, Robert Guetzow, Joe D. Gonzalez, and O.J. Gonzalez. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association, PO Box 841125, Dallas, TX. 75284-1125.
