Hector Ramirez Cantu, 73, of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at his residence surrounded by loved ones. He shared his ranch with his wife Irene and enjoyed tending to his live stock. A musician for most of his life, he will be most remembered for playing the accordion with Los Pobres de Juan Tovar and Los Rieles. He composed numerous songs that were well received by people, especially the song titled “El Corrido del Ranchito de Don Jose Esparza” and the song he wrote for his deceased daughter titled “El Corrido for Natalie Marie”. He was preceded in death by his mother, Estela Ramirez Cantu; father, Gregorio Cantu; daughter, Natalie Marie Cantu; grandson, Nikolaz Sosa; and brothers Felix “Mito” Cantu and Leonel Cantu. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Irene Trevino Cantu; children: Estela P. Cantu, Karla Keller, Greg Keller, Hector R. Cantu, Jr., Jeanette Camarena, Nora Cantu, Abigail Cantu; and stepchildren: Lorraine Sosa Cantu Hinrichs, Lorina Sosa Reed (Alberto Hernandez), Joe Sosa (Sheila Sosa), George Sosa (Jennifer Sosa); sisters San Juana and Lile; brothers Humberto and “Merrin”; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 6:00 p.m. on both evenings, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be his sons and grandchildren.
