Obituary of Abran Tamayo

Please share a memory of Abran to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Abran Tamayo, of San Benito, Texas, joined the eternal Father on Thursday, October 13, 2016. Lucy Tamayo, his loving wife, was at his side, where she had been for 64 years, when he passed peacefully after cancer ended 83 years of a life well lived. Mr. “T”, or “Tamayo” as he was called by friends and coworkers, served the city of San Benito and Cameron County diligently for 37 years. His passion, however, was hunting and fishing with friends and family. Almost everyone he knew was invited to join him at one time or another “a los veinte”. He had stories from his life that could fill a library. One of his favorite quotes was: “Today is a good day to die” (“Little Big Man” the movie). He is survived by wife Lucy and children: Abran Jr (Janice) Tamayo, Lucia (Kenny) Prather, Albert (Tina) Tamayo, Samuel (Annie) Tamayo, and Tammy Tamayo. He will also be missed by countless friends, family of sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, in-laws, (and out-laws, as he was fond of saying). Sure to bring a smile to his face as well as his desire for more time on Earth were his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each of the them carries a special nickname bestowed on them by “Grandpa”, as was his tradition. Son, Juan J. Tamayo and grandson preceded him in death. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016 at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Cremation will follow in accordance with his wishes. We would like to thank all the friends and family that made his 83 years memorable. Of special note: the staff of Sunshine Haven Home and Gentiva Hospice who attended him in his last month. We would prefer donations be made rather than flowers to: Sunshine Haven, 7105 W. Lakeside Blvd., Olmito, TX 78575 or to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 300 Combes St., San Benito, Texas 78586. You may sign the online guestbook and send words of comfort or sympathy cards to the family of Abran Tamayo at: www.thomaegarza.com. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Thomae-Garza Funeral Directors and Crematorium, 395 S. Sam Houston, San Benito, Texas, (956) 399-1331.
