Obituary of Alma Bertha Cortez

Alma Bertha Cortez, 91, of San Benito, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016 in Harlingen, Texas. Alma was a Class of 1942 graduate of San Benito High School, and attended Durham Business College 1943-1945. She was an Executive Secretary for Nueces County Court House in Corpus Christi, Texas for 15 years, and spent another 15 years working for Exxon in Houston, Texas, also as a secretary. She toured with a jazz band as a saxophonist for several years. Alma enjoyed baking, especially German Chocolate Cake. She was quick witted at saying jokes, loved reading Agatha Christie Novels, and watching Perry Mason T.V. shows. She was preceded in death by her mother, Beatriz Cortez; sisters: Beatrice Richie, Gloria Ramos, and Dolores Corkill. She is survived by her sister and brother, Eugenia (Roberto) Garcia and Ezequiel Cortez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. Serving as pallbearers: Frank Corkill, Mike Corkill, Ramiro Ramos, AR Ramos, Arturo Galvan, Marcus Galvan, and honorary pallbearer, Zeke Cortez.
