Maria Piedad Velazquez Contreras, 85, of Port Isabel, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo and Maria Contreras Sanchez Velazquez, son, Eladio Hernandez Velazquez, and daughter, Maria Antonia. Maria is survived by her loving husband, Anastacio Hernandez-Gomez children: Fausto (Rosa) Hernandez Velazquez, Gilberto Hernandez (Isabel) Velazquez, Maguin Hernandez (Guadalupe) Velazquez, Obdulia Hernandez (Jesus+) Rodriguez, Nicolasa (Rafael) Vela, Donacina (Juan) Salinas, Candida (Guillermo) Valencia, Lorenzo Hernandez (Olivia) Velazquez, Juan Antonio Hernandez (Elida) Velazquez, Norma Lydia Hernandez Velazquez, Agustin Hernandez (Martha) Velazquez; 31 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and seven brothers. Visitation will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Our lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. Port Isabel, Texas. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Alex, Adrian, Rafael Jr., Johnny Jr., Francisco, Juan Antonio Jr., Andres, Jose Angel Jr., Emmanuel, and Fabin.
