Obituary of Henrietta R. Manzano

Please share a memory of Henrietta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Henrietta R. Manzano, 72, of Laguna Vista, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, entered into eternal rest on December 22, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Henrietta was born on October 21, 1943 in Brownsville, Texas. She was a truly Christian person, living her faith through her lifelong devotion to her church, family, and teaching profession. She taught children in the primary grades in the Port Isabel, Edinburg, Zapata, and Brownsville school districts. In 1972, she stopped teaching to care full time for her children. Fifteen years after being a housewife and mother, and after all her children had started school, she returned to teaching and helping students realize their full potential. Her life’s work was encouraging, guiding, and loving children, at which she excelled. She was also very active in her church, Our Lady Star of the Sea, where she taught CCD and United States citizenship preparation classes, participated in the Spanish choir, and served as a reader, Eucharistic minister, and member of the bereavement committee. She will be profoundly and sincerely missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, Enriqueta A. and Roman D. Rojas. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years, Dr. José H. Manzano, and the children she called “her treasure”: Margarita M. (Jay) Corbett of Round Rock, Texas; Angelita M. (Deepak) Pandey of Mount Rainier, Maryland; Dr. Sylvia M. (Angel, Jr.) Rivera of Houston, Texas; Yolanda M. (Zachary) Reid of Dallas, Texas; Cynthia M. (Elijah) Metcalf of Dallas, Texas; Dr. J. Javier Manzano of San Antonio, Texas; Miguel R. (Gloria) Manzano of San Antonio, Texas; and Ernesto D. (Amber) Manzano of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by the grandchildren she adored: Shirley D. Reid, Lucas M. Rivera, Cynthia N. Corbett, Manisha M. Pandey, Alena F. Manzano, Gabriel R. Manzano, and Román M. Manzano. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX 78578. Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church followed by committal service at Buena Vista Burial Park in Brownsville. Pallbearers are Angel Rivera, Jr., Jay Corbett, Zac Reid, Elijah Metcalf, Lucas Rivera, and Victor Flores. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Henrietta’s name may be sent to Our Lady Star of the Sea, 705 S. Longoria St., Port Isabel, Texas 78578.
