Obituary of Norman E. Lavelle

Noman E. Lavelle, born in Meshoppen, Pa. on May 9, 1943. Norman, a resident of Port Mansfield, Texas passed away in Harlingen, Texas on September 4, 2015. Norman grew up in Erie, Pa and attended school in Harbor Creek. After being discharged from the Marine Corps, Norman worked mainly in the trucking industry although, he was a member of Operating engineers union during which time he operated a bulldozer at the Kinzua dam project during its origin. Norman was owner and operator of "Norm's Tree Service" & "Norm's General Repair" auto inspection station on East Ave. in Erie. Prior to leaving Pa., Norm lived in McKean County, Pa. where he was elected to the "Mckean County Sports Club" as Vice President and Treasurer. He was also elected and served as Captain of the "Mt. Jewett Fire Police" until he left Pa. in 1999 after being injured in a trucking mishap. Norman was a hunter and fisherman but also enjoyed befriending animals of all kinds. He used to sit on his deck (in McKean County and play with a mama bear & her cubs, flying squirrels, & gray foxes. While in Texas, Norman's picture was in the newspaper and on tv with some of the deer he inter-acted with. Norman was cremated in “San Benito,” Texas on September 09, 2015. A son & daughter & four grandsons of Erie & one brother & two sisters of Erie survive him. Three brothers that reside in the Nashville, Tn. Area, also survive him. Norman prepaid his funeral and arranged for disposition of all that he owned. He also wrote this obit.
