Michael “Mike” Guerra, of San Benito, Texas, passed away on August 3, 2015. Mike loved fishing and spending time with his son. He was very athletic, loved to run and taught personal training. He played football for San Benito High School when they won district. As a kid, he enjoyed karate training, which eventually led to his love for boxing, training kids as well in the sport. Mike was also very artistic and liked to draw. He was also very loved by his friends whom often would seek his advice. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, V. Manuela Martinez; maternal grandfather, Ambrosio Martinez; and paternal grandfather, Ernesto G. Guerra. He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Guerra; his children: Lila Natanya Guerra and Michael Joseph Guerra, Jr.; parents: Samuel Claudio Guerra and Maria Elena Guerra; grandmother, Manuela Guerra; sisters Sammi Marie Guevara and Emily Rose Guerra; nieces Elizabeth Ann (Wilfredo) Martinez and Cristine Nuernberg; as well as numerous cousins and other relatives. Also surviving him are his immediate family members from California: Sylvia Muzquiz and sisters, Veronica Hinojosa and Cristine Gonzales. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, August 7, 2015 at Our Lady Lourdes Catholic Church in La Paloma, Texas. Cremation will follow in accordance with his wishes.
