Lillie Virginia Harvey, 87, was born in San Benito, TX on January 20, 1928 and went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2015. She was the daughter of W.A. Ainsworth Sr. and Emma Ainsworth (Both Deceased), In 1946 Virginia graduated from San Benito High School. She attended Howard Payne College in Kerrville, TX and graduated from Pan American College in Edinburg, TX in 1967. After graduation, she was employed by the Texas State Commission for the Blind in Harlingen, TX. She spent six years as a rehabilitation teacher, 11 years as a counselor-teacher with the older blind and three more years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Virginia retired from the Texas State Commission for the blind in 1988. Her hobbies included founding the VIP (Visually Impaired Person’s) Club in the lower Rio Grande Valley area. She taught classes in sewing and craft work. She volunteered as an exercise instructor at the Camelot Center and the Canterbury Court. She was a long time member of the San Benito Baptist Temple Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for several years. As a visually impaired person herself, she was good at teaching recently blinded individuals the new skills they would need. She gave them hope and encouragement that the rest of their lives could be meaningful. Her goal was always to teach each individual to be as independent as possible. Her next challenge was to focus on the older generation of blind people. Lastly, she took her toughest role, finding and placing blind individuals in lasting employment. In her 20 years of service she enriched the lives of many people. She made their lives much more livable. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 09, 2015 at Mont Meta Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the Canterbury Court Memory Care Unit for always taking care of Mom.
