San Benito, Texas- Amando Rodolfo Uresti “Rusty” passed on to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on June 28, 2015. He was 92 years old and was born in Victoria, Texas on August 21, 1922. Mr. Uresti was a direct descendent of Don Martin de Leon, founder of Victoria, Texas. Rusty was a highly decorated US Army solider in World War II from 1942-1945. He served with the 6th Armored Division commanded by General George Patton during military operations in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. Along with several commendations and medals, he earned the Bronze Star for bravely carrying out his duties under heavy enemy shellfire. Rusty was all of 22 years old when he returned home to Victoria, Texas after the war – a war hero with the rank of Technical Sergeant 4. Mr. Uresti retired from Central Power & Light Company and did contract work for several years for Magic Valley Electric Co- Op as an engineering surveyor. He will always be remembered as a good natured person who was outgoing and had many friends. He loved hunting and listening all kinds of music, especially to George Strait. He also loved dancing as well as watching westerns and game shows on television. Mr. Uresti was preceded in death by his parents, Amando and Elizabeth De Leon Uresti; his first wife, Emma Uresti; and two brothers, Alfonso Uresti and Richard Uresti. Surviving him is his loving wife of 20 years, Lydia Uresti; his brother, Martin Uresti; three children: Rudy (Rosie) Uresti, Yolanda (Curtis) Butler, and Steve (Sandra) Uresti; four stepchildren: Eleazar (Heather) Garcia, George (Noemi) Garcia, Rene (Nora) Garcia, and Cynthia (Ralph) Ramos; six grandchildren: Norma Jean (Henry) Rojas, Lisa Cooke, Chris (Teresa) Garcia, Mando (Annette) Uresti, Danny (Jenny) Uresti, and Steve Uresti, Jr.; eight step grandchildren: Cristian, Emily, Elijah, Cameron, Addison, Illeana, Sarah, and Ezra; six great-grandchildren: Hailey, Arianna, Elizabeth, Emma, Daniel, Jr., and Athan; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a holy rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers: Steve Uresti, Steve Uresti, Jr, Amando Uresti, Daniel Uresti, Eli Garcia, and George Garcia. Serving as honorary pallbearers: Rudy Uresti, Rene Garcia, and Ralph Ramos.
