Captain Enrique T. Delgado, 81, a long-time resident of the San Benito area, died Friday, June 26, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. Enrique met Irma, his wife, in Mexico and they were married on January 4, 1952. They moved to San Benito, Texas, where they started their family. Enrique was a devote Christian who along with Irma was involved in the Iglesia Christiana Emmanuel and Iglesia Cristiana Ebenezer. He participated in mission trips over the years and helped to build new Churches in foreign countries. He cultivated a deep religious faith in the company of his wife and instilled this same faith to each of children. Enrique was a businessman, owner of Henry’s Hancock Service Station, and a shrimp boat captain and owned a fleet of shrimp boats. He worked as a fisherman in the Gulf of Mexico, but, it was his years as a Christian fisher of men on land that fulfilled God’s plan for his life. He is preceded in death by his wife: Irma Delgado; one brother and one sister. He is survived by his loving children, two daughters: Dahlia Tovar and Herlinda (Judge Daniel T.) Robles of San Benito, TX. ; Two sons: Enrique Jr. (Leticia) Delgado of Brownsville, TX and Orlando (Trish) Delgado of Deer Park, TX. ; ten grandchildren: Elizabeth (Chastan A.) Tovar, Erika ( Demontrey) Tovar, Maritza S. Robles, Daniel T. Robles II, Guillermo E. Delgado, Gabriela E. Delgado, Nathaniel (Alejandra) Delgado, Joel Ortiz, Michael Delgado, and Ethan Delgado; eight great-grandchildren: Aliah Ann Thomas, Alina Ann Thomas, Armani Renee Roberts, Juandamarco Earl Sykes, Jadarius Washington, Aiden Maximiliano Delgado, Axton Nicholas Delgado and Alayna Mila Delgado. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, and extended church family throughout the U.S., Mexico and Central America. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 01, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Iglesia Cristiana Emmanuel located on 335 Coral St. in San Benito. Entombment will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito. Pallbearers will be Enrique Delgado, Jr., Orlando Delgado, Judge Daniel T. Robles, Daniel T. Robles II, Brandon Dahlman, Nathaniel Delgado, Chastan Washington, and Demontrey Roberts. Honorary Pallbearers will be Guillermo E. Delgado, Ethan Delgado and Michael Delgado.
