Enriqueta M. Gonzalez "Greyhound Grandma", 91, of San Benito went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 4, 2010 surrounded by all her loving children and grandchildren after a short illness. She was born on June 18, 1918 in La Mesa, Mexico to Castulo and Segunda Morales. Enriqueta was an avid gardener and a true San Benito Greyhound fan. A season ticket holder since the early 1980's; she made sure to never miss a game and even followed the Greyhounds all the way to San Antonio, TX. Her strength and pride came from watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren at various sporting events. She was a lifetime member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church as well as Sacred Heart Society. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ubese Gonzalez, Sr.; siblings, Nicholas Morales, Juana Marin, Eudelia Banda; and granddaughter, Melissa Ann Auiles. She is survived by her 10 children, Nicolas (Yolanda) Gonzalez, Sr., Ovidio (Teodora) Gonzalez, Sr., Melida (Jesus) Rodriguez, Francisca (Valentin) Nerio, Ubese (Maria) Gonzalez, Jr., Jose (Esperanza) Gonzalez, Sr., Janie (Pete) Benavides,, Mary (Rey) Garza, Gloria (Harry) Nunez, Rosie (Juan) Garcia; 48 grandchildren; 66 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Resurrection will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas. Interment will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Andrew Garcia, Rene Garza, Jose Gonzalez, Jr., Valentin Nerio, Jr., Henry Cavazos, and Jeffery Nunez.
