Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerald “Jerry” Raymond Sparks, 80, of Port Isabel, TX passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, peacefully at his residence. Jerry served in the Army from May 1965 to May 1967, during which time, he also served in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/Device 60, and the Vietnam Service Medal with Battle Star. After returning from Vietnam, he married his first wife Kathy and had one son, adding to the 2 children she had brought into their marriage. They spent 30 plus years together before she passed away from cancer. He worked for Riverside Cement in Oro Grande, CA for 38 yrs. He met Mary Fuller in 1999 and they got married in 2011 and welcomed Mary's five girls to his growing family. He loved riding his Harley Motorcycle with Mary and the Old Guys, traveling to several different states, making friends wherever they went. He loved surf fishing in Texas, playing BINGO and cornhole with his island friends and recently became a Texas resident. If you knew Jerry you had to love him, he was funny, caring and had a great sense of humor and loved to try to boss his wife Mary around but we all know that would never happen. Jerry fought a long, hard battle with cancer and passed peacefully in his sleep early in the morning on December 14th. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to call him their friend, grandfather, Papa Jer, father, or husband. Jerry is preceded in death by his first wife Kathy; mother, Josephine; father, Elbert; and numerous aunts and uncles. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Mary Sparks; children: Les Sparks & Grace, Jerry Sparks, Pam Sparks, Shanon Perry, Sheri Hill & Aaron, Stephanie Yost & Tito, Stacey Whittaker & Robert, and Shayna Yost. In addition, he is also survived by his sister, Joan Waegerle; 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
