Obituary of Roberto Garcia

Please share a memory of Roberto to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roberto Garcia, better known to people who grew up with him as "Rob", has exited the stage. Rob was the type of person who made you feel like you knew him your whole life. No one was ever a stranger to him; they were just a friend he had not met yet. He was born on December 10, 1969, to Amparo Escalante and Martin Garcia. His sister came along exactly a year later trying to steal some of his shine. It didn't work. Rob out shined us all. He grew up in Los Fresnos, Texas and enjoyed going to South Padre Island. Spring break in the 80s was the wildest of Spring breaks. He played football with the Los Fresnos Falcons and graduated with the class of 1988. He would make it a point to try and get together with as many of his high school friends as he could whenever he was in town. They were those guys; you know the ones. He was the cool guy with the cool car, a black Z28 Camero, not the Corvette he wanted but still a hot ride. His childhood bedroom was covered in '80s rock band posters, Black Sabbath, Bon Jovi, and Ozzy Osbourne prominent on the walls. His first dog, a pit-bull he named Oz, was in tribute to his rock and roll spirit. As he grew into a man, he would get a degree as an orthopedic technician. This was the start of his healthcare career. He moved to Corpus Christi where he met the woman who would become his wife, Pamela Pearson. They would eventually welcome two beloved daughters. Taylor Paige Garcia and Abigail Nicole Garcia. His girls were his world. He would eventually leave Texas and transplant to Florida where he lived out his life with his family unit of four. He worked at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH). Here he helped people as part of the Bixler Emergency Services team from 1996 till the day he could no longer. He was much loved by the people he worked with. Here they knew him affectionately as "Garcia". He will be missed by his colleagues. Rob's life came to a close in Florida and we won't hold that against him. Rob passed away on October 4, 2023, at his home in Tallahassee, with his mother asleep on the couch next to him. Since November of 2022, Rob had been fighting his 4th battle with cancer and as things got harder for him, his mother went to Florida to be by his side and help in any way she could. He would jokingly tell Melissa that he would keep her with him forever. Since January, she would take him to and from appointments, make him his favorite tacos de lengua and anything else he wanted to bring a little bit of happiness to his day. During what would end up being his last 38 days of life, his family spent every day at his side, mother, father, and sister cared for him and did the heavy lifting. He put up a heck of a fight against what was his 4th battle with cancer, but cancer just wouldn't give up. He is now at peace, and we like to think he is enjoying a shot of tequila with his grandfather and uncles, maybe even Grandma is having a margarita or two. Roberto Garcia was preceded in death by his grandparents, Javier Escalante Sr., Piedad Escalante, Juanita Garcia; uncles, Javier Escalante Sr., Alfredo "Chuck" Escalante Sr., Miguel "Mike" Escalante, Frank Garcia, Marcelo Garcia; aunt, Angelita (Garcia) Vasquez; and cousin, Eric Escalante. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pamela Garcia; daughters, Abigail Nicole Garcia, Taylor Paige Garcia; his parents, Martin Garcia, Amparo Escalante; his sister, Melissa (Jose Isidro) Garcia-Hernandez; and numerous extended family members, too many cousins and second cousins to count. We will miss you, big brother. Love, Penguin.
