Port Isabel, Texas: Genoveva G. Vela, 86 of Port Isabel, Texas entered into eternal rest, surrounded by her loving family on June 21, 2008 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. Mrs. Vela was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and a lifetime member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She loved riding her red car in town and loved playing Bingo. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Juan Jose Vela, Sr.; Parents, Francisco & Juanita Garza; Daughter, Ana Maria (+Eugenio) Martinez; Great Grandson, Felix Angel Rivera; 4 brothers, Juan (+Maria) Garza, Rogelio Garza, Cosme Garza, and Francisco Garza;
She is survived by her 3 loving sons, Juan Jose (Virginia) Vela Jr. of Brownsville, Roberto (Maria) Vela and Pedro (Monica) Vela both of Port Isabel; Her 5 loving daughters, Lucy (Jose) Rivera of Port Isabel, Yolanda (Ricardo) Martinez of Edinburg, Rosalinda Degasperi of Los Fresnos, Maria Santos (Carlos) Facio and Nora (Diodoro) Diaz both of Port Isabel; 1 Special friend who she consider as a daughter, Mrs. Ninfa Zamora of Port Isabel; 21 Grandchildren and 32 Great Grandchildren; 2 Sister in laws, Lupe Garza of Brownsville and Alicia Garza of Port Isabel;
Visitation will be held Tuesday June 24, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito. Visitation will continue tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday June 25, 2008 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel. Interment will follow to Port Isabel City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Julian Vela, Jesus Barrera III, Jose Martin Rivera, Sammy Martinez, Paul Vela, Robert Vela Jr., Mario Vela, Elias Degasperi, Jr., Eugenio Martinez, Jr., and Ricardo Martinez, Jr.
