Port Isabel, Texas: Benito Ochoa Jr., 76 of Port Isabel, Texas enter into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on May 31, 2008 at his residence in Port Isabel. Benito was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Port Isabel. He owned and operated Ochoa Grocery and B&B Grocery Store for many years. He was a city commissioner in 1962, and a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. He was the Democratic Pct. 1 chair person in Port Isabel, and a loyal Democratic Party member. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Laguna Madre Area and an organizer for the commercial fisherman of Port Isabel. He also played with a band called Bennie and the 5 pros. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Benito Sr. & Virginia Torres Ochoa; Brother, Arnoldo Ochoa; Sister, Lucila Green; Father and Mother in law, Juan & Isabel Vega; He is survived by his loving wife of 59, Maria Del Rosario Vega Ochoa of Port Isabel; 7 Children, Claudia Elma (Moy) Galvan of Port Isabel, Benito (Teresa) Ochoa III of Port Isabel, Virginia Isabel (Steve) Owens of Port Isabel, Juan Efrain (Patricia) Ochoa of Houston, Marianella (Whitman) Bodden of Laguna Vista, Maria Del Rosario (Victor) Garza of Brownsville and Saul Porfirio (Daisy) Ochoa of Laguna Vista, Texas; 21 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren; 3 Sisters, Aurora O. Moreau of Port Isabel, Arcelia O. Gonzalez of Houston, and Inez Ochoa de Hinojosa of South Padre Island; Visitation will be held today Tuesday June 03, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito and will continue from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S. Longoria St. in Port Isabel. Mass of Resurrection will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 04, 2008 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel with Father Gerry Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery in Port Isabel, Texas. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Bennie Ochoa IV, Eddie Pena, Ariel Pena, Carlo Garza, Whitman L. Bodden, WM. Johnathan Bodden, Jude Ochoa, Jonathan Ochoa, Victor Hugo Garza and Saul Daniel Ochoa. Honorary Pallbearers are Castulo Vasquez, Casemiro Mares Martinez, Lauro Ochoa, Horacio O. Hinojosa, Arnold Green, Robert Fisher, Bobby Lerma, David Betancourt, Israel Martinez, and Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. In lieu of flowers memorial can be made in memory of Benito Ochoa Jr. to Rio Grande Marine Institution, 27615 Buena Vista Rd., Los Fresnos, Texas 78566 (956) 233-5795.
