Harlingen, TX - Fredrick Karl "Rick" Gottschling, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in his home. He was born on October 3, 1960 in Manchester, New Hampshire and had lived in Harlingen since 1980. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Beverly Hanna, his much loved son, Ricky, 9 yrs.; his parents, Bev and Rick; a sister, Debbie; and 2 brothers, Steve and Billy; also surviving are Beverly's family, Jeanette Wade, Don Wade, Diana Danner, Debbie and Jeff Minor, their son, Jeffery; 4 nieces, 2 nephews, in addition to many friends. Rick was self-employed in construction and enjoyed fixing "absolutely" anything according to Beverly and all of his friends. Young Ricky often followed his Dad, wanting to help him fix something or work on the truck together. Thanks to Dad, Ricky will always be handy and know how to use tools. So many friends remember Rick as a brother, who was loyal, and loved to tell them about how proud he was of Ricky. When Ricky was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in February 2005 and received treatment at Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, the family worked hard to provide therapy, with Rick designing a number of devices to assist his son. Rick also loved to cook up delicious barbeque and invite friends and family for a great evening. According to Beverly their small family enjoyed just being home together, often having pizza on Fridays after a busy week. Services to remember Rick will be held graveside at Heavenly Grace Cemetery located on White Ranch Rd. in La Feria on Friday, May 16, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Aaron Saenz presiding. Pallbearers will be James Bauer, Kelly Norman, Eddie Churchill, Andrew Bauer, Gary Hearn, and Roman Stockton. Family and friends will gather at First United Methodist Church in Harlingen for a light lunch following the service. In lieu of flowers, friends have established a Savings Account for his son, Ricky. Contributions may be made at Capital One Acct # 3830559263.
