Rachel C. Gonzalez, 85, of Port Isabel, passed away peacefully Thursday on March 2, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Rachel was a lifetime resident of Port Isabel and lifetime parishioner at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Port Isabel, TX. In her younger years she worked with Central Power and Light. She worked with the Port Isabel ISD for many years as a Teacher’s Aide and Nurse’s Assistant. She was a life-long Tarpon fan and exuded her Tarpon Pride. She was a graduate of Port Isabel High School and was proud to be a Tarpon cheerleader. She was elected most beautiful in High School by her peers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rodolfo Gonzalez; parents, Antonio and Hortencia Carter; and sister, Emma Holland. Rachel is survived by her 3 sons, Rudy Gonzalez, Jaime (Janette) Gonzalez, and Noel (Vanessa) Gonzalez; 9 grandchildren, Shelby Barrera, Jaime “J.J.” Gonzalez, Jaina Gonzalez, Jonathan Gonzalez, Osean Gonzalez, Jaime Gonzalez, Jayden Gonzalez, Noel Gonzalez, Jr., and Jestella Gonzalez; 2 sisters, Victoria “Vita” Holland, and Margarita Garza (Oscar); 1 brother, Antonio “Tony” Carter, Jr. (Lydia); numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 705 S Longoria St, Port Isabel, TX with interment to follow at Port Isabel City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sebastian Lopez, Uvaldo Holland Jr., Mark Holland, Oscar Garza, Henry Holland, Jayden Gonzalez, Jaime “J.J.” Gonzalez, and Noel Gonzalez, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Vidal “Billy” Holland, Jr., Jonathan Gonzalez, Jaime Gonzalez and Gabriel Garza.
