William “Bill” Carr, age 79, of Laguna Vista, Texas passed away on February 1, 2023. Bill was born on August 23, 1943 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was the son of Russell Lee Carr and Viola (Fryear) Carr. Bill grew up in Skokie, IL. Bill was a wrestling star in high school and continued wrestling through college. For the remainder of his life, he enjoyed wrestling as a coach and spectator. Bill received his BBA with distinction and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan. He then moved to Dayton, Ohio and began his career at Smith & Schnacke Law Firm, becoming the youngest partner in their history. After retirement from law, Bill built two successful manufacturing plants, Tafco Inc. in Hyde, PA and TMP in Monterrey Mexico. He relocated to Laguna Vista in 2010. Bill became an integral member of the community, and worked tirelessly for the development and revival of the South Padre Island Golf Course and the surrounding community. Bill is survived by his companion, MaryAnne Carr and grandson, Asher; two daughters, Lisa (Jim) and Katie. He had 4 grandchildren, Bree, Allie, Joseph, and Sydney. Additionally, Bill was blessed with 5 great grandchildren, Nora, Benjamin, Camilla, Mari, and Ronan. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Billy” to his nephew, Matt Carr. His most cherished title was “Papa.” Bill was a generous man. He quietly helped so many throughout his lifetime. He loved golfing with his buddies every weekend, traveling with his family to Colorado for epic ski trips, and cuddling with his dogs. His greatest joy was being a grandfather. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Chapel By the Sea, 33425 State Park Rd 100, South Padre Island, TX 78597 on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. with a reception following at Sea4Ever, 100 Padre Blvd., Tower B 5th Floor, South Padre Island, TX 78597. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Isabel Y. Garcia Port Isabel Animal Shelter, 262 Woodys Ln., Port Isabel, TX 78578,(956)943-3888 or the Gladys Porter Zoo, 500 E Ringgold St, Brownsville, TX 78520, (956)546-7187.
