In loving memory of Baltazar “Balta” G. Peña, Sr. “El Pajaro”, of San Benito, Texas. He was called to His Heavenly home on October 13, 2022, in San Benito, Texas. He was born February 4, 1938, to the late Ernesto and Matilde Peña. He is preceded in death by his parents: Ernesto and Matilde Peña; son, Julian Lucio, Jr.; sisters: Juanita Casillas, Hilda Cantu, and Angelita Quesada; brothers: Pablo Peña, his triplets; Gaspar Peña and Melchior Peña; great-grandson: Jorge Flores Jr. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years: Elisa Reza Peña; three daughters: San Juana P. Rodriguez (Hector), Sylvia Peña (Mari)and Celina P. Garza (Tirso); sons: Baltazar Peña, Jr. and Julian Lucio, III (Erica); siblings Juan Peña, Fort Worth, Texas, Carlos Peña (Rosa) Greeley, Colorado, Brother-in-Law Gilberto Reza and 17 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a cotton ginner for many years until his health caused him to retire. He was a devout Catholic all his life and a devout parishioner and volunteer at St. Theresa Catholic Church. He enjoyed quality time with family, making briskets, praying the rosary and Divine Mercy, eating at his favorite restaurant, El Gallito and creating memories with his wife and many grand and great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Thomae Garza Funeral Home in San Benito on Friday, October 14, 2022, from 6pm to 9pm with the recitation of the holy rosary by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at 7pm. Mass of Resurrection will take place at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1300 Combes St, San Benito, TX Saturday, October 15 at 2pm. Honored to serve as pallbearer are Alyssa Rodriguez, Joel B Rodriguez, Jorge V Flores, John Daniel Lucio, Annalii Peña, Eric Julian Lucio, Elisa J. Garza, Frankie Garza, Mateo B Garza; Honorary Pallbearers, Baltazar Peña, Jr., Juan Peña, Carlos Peña, Agustin B Flores, Tirso Francisco Garza Sr., Hector Rodriguez, and Mari Jaramillo. A warm and special thanks to Fr. Joe and all the staff from St. Theresa Catholic Church. Dr. Shenkenberg’s office, The Heart Clinic: Julio Olmeda, P.A. and all staff at Kindred Hospice.
